Where are they hidden?
Hidden cameras can be concealed inside familiar objects such as clocks, smoke detectors, sockets and chargers, USB sticks, speakers, bookshelves and ceiling panels. The object they are hidden in makes them unnoticeable.
Simple checks
- Darken the room and sweep your phone torch slowly across surfaces; you may spot small lens glints.
- Notice unusual objects or ones pointed in an odd direction.
- Check your router screen for unknown devices on the Wi-Fi network.
- Inspect sockets, clocks and smoke detectors from the outside.
Limit of these checks
Simple checks do not find every camera. Not finding anything does not mean "clean"; it can give false confidence. A reliable result needs a hidden camera sweep that uses optical, RF and network methods together.
If you find something in a hotel room
Do not touch it. Photograph it, leave the room and inform the police and hotel management. Placing a camera in someone's private space is a serious offence. See the what to do if a device is found page for details.
