Look the room over generally: unusual objects, oddly aimed accessories, clocks and smoke detectors. Sweeping your phone torch over surfaces in the dark can show a lens glint. This simple check does not find everything.
Sensitive talks
It is better not to hold talks involving trade secrets and personal information in a hotel room and to prefer a secure meeting space. Do not leave sensitive files out and use your own charger rather than shared USB charging points.
Wi-Fi security
Hotel Wi-Fi is a shared network. When sharing sensitive data use a trusted encrypted connection (such as a corporate VPN) and turn off automatic connection.
Professional sweep
If there is an important commercial negotiation or a personal safety concern, a hotel room sweep can be done before or during the stay. If you find something, do not touch it and follow the steps to take.
